Sicily 2024
A quick blog about our recent trip to Sicily with a couple of our friends π
Day 1: Arrival π¬
We arrived into Catania airport and took the bus to Taormina - a beautiful town on the east coast of Sicily. We overshot the bus stop outside our hotel, so we had to walk back on ourselves quite a while but we didn't mind too much after being sat down travelling all day. After settling into the hotel, in the evening we went for a walk along the coast and had dinner at a local restaurant overlooking Isola Bella.
Day 2: Taormina π
On day 2, we spent the morning chilling at the pool and in the afternoon took the shuttle bus into town to explore and have dinner and drinks. We visited the ancient Greek/Roman theatre as well as looking around the shops and getting lost down all the narrow side streets.
Day 3: Isola Bella π
A little while chilling at the hotel again in the morning before walking along the coast and onto Isola Bella. We had dinner at a restaurant right on the sea and played some Canasta before walking back to the hotel.
Day 4: Etna π
On the fourth day, we'd organised a tour to see Mt. Etna! We met our guide GF in the morning who picked us up in a 4x4 and drove us around all day and told us all about the volcano. We visited a few places including:
- an old lava flow that happened from an eruption that lasted from 1991-1993
- inside one of the lava tubes created by an eruption
- a great viewpoint on the western side of the volcano
- Fran and I took the cable car up to 2500m and then a 4x4 to 2900m to see the highest craters - while Andy and Elly walked around the lower craters
Day 5: Departure π«
We had a final breakfast in Taormina and then took the train back to Catania airport.
